A is for April who died of pretty pretty overindulgence

I have always admired and have been a fan of Edward Gorey's macabre illustrations. I remember even being scared when the Mystery Theater intro would play on PBS after Mister Rodgers was over. I would quickly ask my mother to turn it off. It was a little too dark for 5 year old April.

One Christmas I gave T a copy of my favorite Edward Goery book, The Gashlycrumb Tinies. It's a morbid take on the Alphabet where Victorian children die dark and lonely deaths in Alphabetical order according to their first name. It's a feel good book as you can tell!

Below are examples of Mr. Gorey's grimly beautiful artwork along with an outfit that I put together inspired by his gloomy Victorian Tinies. May the Tinies rest in peace!

Lily Cole for French Playboy - Oo la la!

Looking at these pictures Miss Lily Cole did for French Playboy really shows me how different American Playboy is from its French counterpart. The women and shoots in the modern American Playboy seem so made-up, fake and over processed. I guess American men (or at least the men who buy Playboy) love their women to look like some unreal fantasy fem-bot. Large fake breasts, big unnatural bleached blonde hair, pounds of over-the-top makeup, and raunchy lingerie.

As where  French Playboy seems to feature nudity and the woman's body in a more realistic, tasteful manner. This editorial with model Lily Cole is fun, artistic and far softer and more natural than the harsh fake portrayal of women here in the US.

So enjoy Miss Cole's pictures from French Playboy October 2008!

Cold, cold go away!!

Boy do I have a bad case of the cold or what?! What started last weekend as a tiny, scratchy throat, as fully blown into a coughing, sneezing, headache, mess!

I stood home today from work and have not left my house for any reason! Hell! I haven't even left my pajamas for any reason! I really hope I feel better by tomorrow because I am officially sick of being sick.

So sorry there isn't much of a post today. I did however, find this wonderful picture taken from a Japanese VOGUE editorial that I totally love! Not only is she wearing the Miu Miu Fall 2010 dress I have been aching for since I first saw their collection, but they styled it EXACTLY the way I would if I ever had the golden opportunity to own this dress. Black flats, leather gloves, black opaque tights, shiny black "bowl" cut, amazing amounts of black eyeliner and pale lips. Get out of my head Japanese Vogue!!!! :)

I wish I weren't  all sick and I was looking cute like the model in the picture. I feel gross...sigh.

This picture reminds me that I am in dire need of a hair trim.

Might as well face it you're addicted to DRESSES!

It's been about a month since the last time I bought a new dress and man is it getting harder and harder to sustain the urge of shopping! I don't know how much longer I can contain myself!

I am putting the dress shopping on a little hiatus since Christmas left me a little broke and I am trying to save for my Portland trip at the end of the month. But that doesn't keep me from web-window shopping! Why I've already found a few dresses on ModCloth that if I had more change in my pocket, would be sitting pretty in my closet.

What Would Rachel Wear?

If you are anything like me you often lie awake restless at night wondering if the Los Angeles of the future will very much look like the Los Angeles in Blade Runner. And then those thoughts tangent into fashion (of course) and you start to deeply ponder what all the stylish Replicants, like Rachel, would wear in the year 2019?

Well this post is dedicated to that hot Replicant bird from Blade Runner, Rachel, and answers the question that has been on all of our minds, "What Would Rachel Wear?"

Victor Costa Puff Sleeved Dress, is very structural and has the dramatic shoulders you could only come to expect in Rachel's wardrobe.

Sport Max Piped Ribbed Collared dress, is a futuristic dress that looks stylish and is functional in the cold, rainy Los Angeles weather.

Wolford Lux Denier Tights in Carmel, these tights are like your bare legs, only better. Replicant's are probably manufactured with perfect legs already though.

Christian Louboutin Platform Pumps, perfect shoe for the retro-future look Rachel pulls off so well.

Lancome Le Stylo Waterproof eyeliner in Noir. The color is rich, blendable black in a waterproof formula perfect for withstanding wet Los Angeles nights and Replicant tears.

Yves Saint Laurent lipstick in Electric Coral. This color is sexy, and innocent looking. Don't you just love contradictions? It would give Rachel the perfect vibrant, glossy pout.

Nars blush in Exhibit A. What is more futuristic than a brillant red that when applied to cheeks is a very flattering, bright pink? Rachel would approve!

Clinique Brow Shaper in Charcoaled for Rachel's perfectly manicured bushy brows.

I can't wait till 2019!!
